Sequel partners with Nonesuch Records for New Release: Allen Toussaint/“The Bright Mississippi”
April 21, 2009

The Bright Mississippi, Toussaint’s first solo album in more than a decade, has already garnered such descriptors as "calm, swampy, smoky, rakish and velveteen” (according to the New York Observer). The Times UK calls it "a relaxed, confident homage" to New Orleans jazz. Sequel’s package design seeks to complement Toussaint’s purposeful balance with a juxtaposition of contemporary iconography and the soulful cover image of William Claxton, evocative of the music’s roots.  “Everybody fed on each other,” Toussaint said of the sessions, and the same seems to be true of the production.
